S\u00f6n 2 oktober kl. 18:30, Filmhuset, Borgv\u00e4gen 1-3<\/p>\n<p><i>Jack Smith \u00e4r en av den amerikanska experimentfilmhistoriens mest subversiva konstn\u00e4rer. Hans performativa verk ger uttryck f\u00f6r en egensinnig och radikal cinefili som utgjorde grunden f\u00f6r hans uppg\u00f6relse med sk\u00f6nhet \u2013den fysiska s\u00e5v\u00e4l som den kinematografiska.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>N\u00e4r de franska nya v\u00e5gen-filmarnas omskrivning av filmhistorien medelst auteurteorin fick spridning i USA s\u00e5 fanns d\u00e4r redan en parallell r\u00f6relse i New York. R\u00f6relsen var \u00e4ven den sprungen ur en impuls att lyfta fram tidigare negligerade filmhistoriska yttringar, och Jack Smith var en av dess fr\u00e4msta f\u00f6retr\u00e4dare. F\u00f6r Smith var det dock inte fr\u00e5ga om att lyfta fram konstn\u00e4rer som f\u00f6rsummats inom Hollywoodfilmen, utan i st\u00e4llet visuellt excessiva B-filmer med monster, kreativa kostymer och exotiska fantasiv\u00e4rldar, oavsett om de var gjorda av auteurer eller ej:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJudy Canova flix (I don\u2019t even remember the names),\u00a0<i>I Walked with a Zombie<\/i>,\u00a0<i>White Zombie<\/i>,\u00a0<i>Hollywood Hotel<\/i>, all Montez flix, most Dorothy Lamour sarong flix, a gem called\u00a0<i>Night Monster<\/i>,\u00a0<i>Cat &amp; the Canary<\/i>,\u00a0<i>The Pirate<\/i>, Maureen O\u2019Hara Spanish Galleon flix (all Spanish Galleon flix anyway), all Busby Berkeley flix,\u00a0<i>Flower Thief<\/i>, all musicals that had production numbers, especially Rio de Janeiro prod. nos., all Marx Bros.\u201d (1)<\/p>\n<p>F\u00f6rfattaren Susan Sontag beskrev Smiths verk som ett \u201cmodernt \u2018campigt\u2019 s\u00e4tt att uppskatta popul\u00e4rkultur\u201d, (2) och filmforskaren Marc Siegel har beskrivit det som att dessa filmer<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2026 inspired Smith to recognize the power of individual conviction to transform ordinary objects, lines of dialogue, garbage and paper mache sets into the elements of a magical fantasy world. \u2019Trash\u2019, as he put in the Montez essay, \u2019is the material of creators\u2019.\u201d (3)<\/p>\n<p>Utifr\u00e5n eklektiska preferenser arbetade Jack Smith med b\u00e5de performance och film, och hans otyglade bild- och ljudspr\u00e5k banade v\u00e4g f\u00f6r n\u00e5gra av experiment \u2013 och queerfilmens mest utmanande verk.
