Hedwig and the Angry Inch \u00e4r lika mycket musikal, eller som regiss\u00f6ren, manusf\u00f6rfattaren och huvudrollsinnehavaren John Cameron Mitchell sj\u00e4lv kallar den, ”post-punk neo-glam rockmusikal”, som bitterljuvt h\u00e4mnddrama och queert larger than life-epos.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

F\u00f6rst framf\u00f6rd som Off-Broadwaymusikal har den efter filmens framg\u00e5ngar hittat tillbaka till scenen, i Sverige senast spelad p\u00e5 Malm\u00f6 stadsteater (2020) med Lindy Larsson i titelrollen.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Ber\u00e4ttad i tillbakablickar presenterar filmen oss f\u00f6r Hedwig som pojken Hansel i \u00d6stberlin. Efter att ha f\u00f6r\u00e4lskat sig i en amerikansk soldat genomg\u00e5r han en k\u00f6nskorrigering f\u00f6r att kunna gifta sig lagligt med sin \u00e4lskade. Operationen misslyckas och l\u00e4mnar hen med en \u201dangry inch\u201d. Entr\u00e9 f\u00f6r Hedwig, som \u00e5teruppfinner sig sj\u00e4lv som rockstj\u00e4rna \u2013 i John Cameron Mitchells h\u00e4nder lika delar en queer halvgud med osviklig k\u00e4nsla f\u00f6r oneliners, som sviken och hj\u00e4rtekrossad m\u00e4nniskospillra.
