Draglight District

I am a weightless horny faerie sparkling all around the room, catching gazes, leaving drool stains. It’s hypnotizing – the crowd follows me. I lead them to the VIP cave, where I take off my wings, peel off my skin, and become an ancient timeless moody giant with heavy balls, hairy armpits and strong calves. They’re scared. They scream: “that was not what I paid for!”

How can all that inhabit my body? How do I morph myself between the world of being paid to please cis men and the world of pleasing no one but my own gay belly button?

DRAG LIGHT DISTRICT happens in the corner between the stripclub and the drag king show. For real, picture an actual corner of a poorly lit street, where an old married guy is withdrawing money from the ATM while a group of queer people smoke, laugh and flirt on the other side of the road, and you can hear a heavy metal song coming from somewhere nearby. Through a teasing dynamic, Sarah and Mariê unleash their queer desires, transitioning between rockstars and rockstaress. In this performance, they explore their lived experiences and fantasies around stripping and dragging, navigating the kinship that is formed in these environments, negotiating boundaries, living the dream, feeling the pain, healing the trauma while creating some new ones, exposing themselves and making that coin.
