Gender fluid Manuela owns a brothel in a small town in Mexico together with their daughter, La Japonesita. A greedy capitalist wants to buy their brothel in order to hold a monopoly over the village, all the while Manuela and their daughter want to seduce the same man, Pancho. The Place Without Limits is both a funny tragedy and a tragic comedy, but first and foremost, a critique of machismo. It is a film that shocked and delighted, both back in 1978 and in our time, and is considered an important milestone in Mexican queer cinema.
